Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Retirement Forecaster (the “Service”), operated by Data Accepted LLC (“we,” “us,” “our”), collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.
1. Information you provide
| Category | Examples | Why we have it |
|---|---|---|
| Account information | Email address, password (stored only as a secure one-way hash), optional display name, whether you file jointly | To create and secure your account and sign you in |
| Your financial inputs | Ages, income, spending, debts, mortgage details, savings and retirement account balances, and the assumptions you choose — all self-reported estimates you enter | To run and save your projection, and to keep a month-by-month record of it so you can review past months. Resetting your data or deleting your account erases that record |
| Payment information | Handled by Stripe. Stripe sends us a record of each payment, which includes the billing name and address you gave Stripe and the card brand, expiry and last four digits (never your full card number or CVC). From that record we keep only Stripe’s reference numbers, the amounts, the payment’s status, your account number, the plan, any affiliate code, and the consents you gave; we do not keep the name, email, address or card details from it. We also keep the country your card was issued in. The list, with the reason for each item, is in the FAQ. We also record that you confirmed you are a US resident, with the date and the country your connection appeared to come from. If you choose the senior price, we record that you confirmed you are 65 or older, with the date, and we privately note if nobody in the plan you enter is 65 or older. We do not ask for or store proof of age | To grant you access, keep a record of the purchase, and check that the senior price is used as intended |
| Feedback and support | Any message, category, and optional context you send us through the feedback form | To answer you and improve the Service |
| Affiliate applicants & affiliates | Name, email, website, promotion channels, and — for approved affiliates — a PayPal email for payouts and a record of whether tax paperwork was received | To review applications and pay commissions |
2. Information collected automatically
- Essential cookies. We use a session cookie to keep you logged in and a security cookie to protect forms against cross-site request forgery. These are required for the Service to work. Two more exist only for affiliate referrals (next bullet): a visitor identifier that lasts up to 120 days, and a marker for the visit that arrived through the link, which ends when you close the browser.
- Affiliate attribution (first referral wins). If you arrive through an affiliate link, or use an affiliate’s discount code at checkout, we store a small anonymous visitor identifier and that affiliate’s code so a resulting purchase can be credited to them, together with the page you landed on and, when your browser sends it, the address of the page that linked to us. Credit goes to the first affiliate link you arrived through within a 90-day window: a later click on a different affiliate’s link does not replace the earlier one. One exception — if you deliberately type a different affiliate’s discount code at checkout, that typed code takes the credit. Because this identifier lives in your browser, attribution can only follow the device and browser you complete your purchase on. It is not your name and is not used to build an advertising profile.
- Basic technical and log data. Like most web applications, our hosting provider processes standard request information (such as IP address and browser type) needed to deliver and secure the site. We keep application logs deliberately free of your financial values and personal identifiers.
- A record of your subscription agreement. If you buy the annual plan, we store proof that you agreed to automatic renewal: the exact wording shown to you, the amounts, the date and time, your browser’s user-agent string, and a one-way scrambled version of your IP address. We deliberately do not keep the address itself — the scrambled form can confirm the agreement came from a real request but cannot be turned back into a location. Consumer-protection law requires us to keep this record; see section 7, “How long we keep information”.
- Anything you type when cancelling. Cancelling asks an optional question about why. It is genuinely optional, skipping it changes nothing about your cancellation, and if you skip it we store nothing.
- Which steps you reached, as counts. We record that events happened — a page was opened, a step was finished, a purchase completed — so we can see where people get stuck and fix it. A record holds the name of the step, the time, and a reference to your account; it never holds any figure you entered, your email, your name, your IP address, or your browser type. If you ask us to delete your data, these records stay as anonymous counts with the reference to you removed. We keep them for up to 24 months.
- If you refund, a short anonymous note of how far you got. When a refund is processed we keep a row saying whether the set-up was finished, which step was reached, how many days the purchase was held, the plan, and whether it came through an affiliate — no figures and nothing identifying — so we can see why people leave and fix it.
We do not use third-party advertising trackers. The counts above are stored in our own database and are never sent to an analytics or advertising company.
3. How we use your information
- To provide, operate, and secure the Service and your account;
- To run, save, and display your financial projections;
- To process your purchase and provide access;
- To respond to your feedback and support requests;
- Only if you opt in (an unticked box at sign-up, changeable any time in Settings): to email you occasional updates, new features, product launches and offers from Data Accepted LLC. We record when you opted in, the wording you agreed to, and when you opted out, so your choice can be honored and shown. Emails about your own account and purchase (for example, a receipt, or notice of a change to your subscription or to the features of the service you use) are not marketing and are sent regardless;
- To operate the affiliate program, including attributing referrals and paying commissions;
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
- To comply with our legal and tax obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. When we share information
We share personal information only in these limited situations:
- Service providers who help us run the Service under confidentiality obligations. These are: our hosting provider, which stores your account and projection data; our payment processor (Stripe), where you enter your card directly; an email delivery service, which sends account emails such as verification and password resets; a network security service, which protects the site and secures the connection between your browser and our servers, so your traffic passes through it; and, for affiliate tax paperwork only, a specialized tax-form service. They may use the information only to provide services to us.
- Legal reasons — if required by law, subpoena, or valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of the Company, our users, or the public.
- Business transfer — if the Company is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.
5. Where your information is stored
The Service is operated from the United States, and your account and scenario data are stored on servers located in the United States by our hosting provider. Backups are held in the same region. We do not transfer your financial figures outside the United States in the ordinary course of running the Service.
The Service is currently offered to customers in the United States only. If you are accessing it from elsewhere, understand that your information will be processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those of your own country.
6. How we protect your information
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), one-way hashing of passwords, access controls, and keeping sensitive identifiers out of our logs. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we design the Service to minimize what sensitive data we hold in the first place.
7. How long we keep information
We keep your account and the scenarios you build for as long as your account is active.
If your access ends — you cancel, or a renewal is not collected — your saved scenarios are not deleted straight away, so that coming back does not mean starting over. If you have not returned within twelve months of your access ending, we may delete the financial figures you entered; we will give you notice before we do. Your account itself, and the record of what you purchased, remain.
If you ask us to delete your data, we will — and if you have an annual membership that is still renewing, deleting your account also ends it, so you will not be charged again. Email [email protected] and we will remove the financial information you entered.
One caveat about backups, so the word “deleted” means what you expect. We keep encrypted backups of the database so that a hardware failure or a mistake on our end does not lose your work. When we delete your data, it goes from the live system straight away, but a copy can still sit inside those backups until they age out, which takes up to 30 days. We do not use backups to look anything up, and if we ever have to restore one, we re-apply any deletions people asked for before the restored data is used.
What we cannot delete on request, and why. We would rather say this plainly than surprise you with it:
- Purchase and tax records. We are required to keep these, and for how long is not our choice. This means the Stripe payment references, the dates you paid, renewed, cancelled or were refunded, and — if you came to us through an affiliate — which affiliate, because their commission is a tax record too. Stripe’s own copy of your payment record is reduced to the transaction itself: the billing name, address, phone and card details in it are removed.
- The record of why we accepted your account and purchase: that you confirmed you are 18 or older, which version of the Terms you accepted and when, your US-residency confirmation (the date and connection country), and the country of the card you paid with.
- Proof that you agreed to a subscription (section 2). Consumer-protection law requires us to hold this for at least three years, or a year after your subscription ends, whichever is longer. It is the evidence that we charged you with your permission — it protects you as much as us, and deleting it early would remove the record rather than the risk. It contains no financial figures and no readable IP address.
8. Your choices and rights
You can:
- Access or correct your account information and financial inputs directly in the app, or by contacting us;
- Delete your account and associated projection data by contacting us at the address below;
- Opt out of marketing email at any time by unticking the box in Settings, using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, or by contacting us.
Depending on your US state of residence, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act — for example, to access or delete your personal information and to be free from discrimination for exercising those rights. To make a request, contact us using the details in Section 10; we will verify and respond as required by applicable law. We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front.
9. Children’s privacy
The Service is intended for adults (18 and older) and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, take reasonable steps to notify you. Your continued use of the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the revised Policy.
